What are teasers?

Teasers are the small bits of information on the periferals of your website the entice you to visit a different page. The idea comes from magazines who have things like "Ways to drive your woman wild! See page 26.". Almost every module has a correponding teaser which can be activated in the main preferences.

The Karma Wizard's content has a misc teaser which has the "launch the wizard" button, events teaser, mailing list, polls, and links. Different teasers can go on each module by overriding the main preferences in the "webpage preferences" of the specific module. The events page and downloads page have different teasers than the rest.

All Teasers

General Teaser Settings

Style for all individual teasers can be controlled here. Unlike the main links, there is no control for a wrapper around all teasers because the can vary so widely in location. Instead you can control the teasers in both groups at once here.

Teaser Headings

The teaser heading are the bolded title that appears above the teaser. Teaser titles are optional and won't appear at all - including backgrounds - if nothing is entered by the user or nothing special is done in the Custom CSS>

If your design requires a teaser heading to finish a background for instance, you can use div.teaser_heading in Custom CSS, and place a min-height and your background style on it since that div exists as long as the teaser does. The span inside that teaser heading disappears if nothing is entered in KarmaCMS by the user.

Graphic Fonts

You can enhance your design by uploading a graphic font here.

Because graphic fonts can't wrap the way plain text does, the user has the option to turn off graphic fonts and revert to text. It is best to keep that in mind and style your teaser heading in the same color as your graphic font to at least keep it readable.

For more info on how graphic fonts work in KarmaCMS, go here.

Teaser Group 1

Teasers are in one group (group 1) by default, but can be split into two in the main preferences by inserting the dashed line, "---". Most of Karma's layouts have group 1 teasers on the side, either right or left.

Teasers - Group 1 Wrapper

Control the entire group's style here. For instance you can move the group over, change the text color, or place a background image below it that will always be after the last teaser no matter how many.

Group 1 Teasers

Control all individual teasers within the group here. For instance, if you'd like each teaser to have a yellow background and add space between them you can do that here.

Teaser Group 2

If a dashed line has been inserted in the main preferences, a second group appears (group 2). The group will be in different places depending upon which layout you choose. In many 2 column layouts the second group will go directly above the footer and is useful for having wide banners for advertising.

Teasers - Group 2 Wrapper

Control the entire group's style here. For instance, you can move the group over, change the text color, or place a background image below it that will always be after the last teaser no matter how many.

Group 2 Teasers

Control all individual teasers within the group here. For instance, if you'd like each teaser to have a yellow background and add space between them you can do that here.

General

The Main Links are the principal navigation in your website to other "pages" and arguable the most important part of your site. Depending on your layout they can appear in different places; some are horizontal and under the header, some are vertical and above the teasers, others are at the very top of the page, and some are split into horizontal and vertical groups.

The links can be split into two groups in the KarmaCMS main preferences by inserting the dashed line, "---". When they are split they are controlled by main links group 1 and main links group 2. The dashed line isn't inserted by default so all links are in group 1 unless you change that.

In every situation the main links are a variable height so a height should never be placed on them. Anything under this div should be able to move down naturally as the main links expand. Usually it is the flexible nature of the main links that throws designers not experienced with dynamic design for a loop.
